Dark Magician Girl tells them about the Leviathan and how it will return to destroy the world unless the Pharaoh can release the legendary dragons and protect them. Yugi and the Pharaoh manage to release one of the dragons, Timaeus, and form a bond with it.

He warns them about Dartz's plans to summon the Great Leviathan - and the only people that can stop him are the warriors who control the three legendary dragons.

Under the influence of the Orichalcos, the Pharaoh ruthlessly attacks Rafael using Catapult Turtle to sacrifice his monsters. Rafael has gained the upper hand; he has unlocked the Pharaoh's inner darkness and turns his own monsters against him using Guardian Eatos.The Pharoah loses the duel and almost has his soul taken, but Yugi steps in to save him. Meanwhile, Rex and Weevil jump onto Rafael's helicopter to join up with them.

Joey plays Release Restraint on Gearfried the Iron Knight to summon Gearfried the Swordmaster, then fuses Hermos and Red-Eyes Black Dragon into Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword to win the duel against Rex. Meanwhile, the Pharaoh is having trouble defeating Weevil without Timaeus, who has seemingly deserted him after Yugi's sacrifice. Weevil plays a cruel trick on the Pharaoh, who responds by ruthlessly discarding monsters and attacking Weevil repeatedly with Breaker the Magical Warrior long after the duel has ended; shortly after, the train falls off the edge of a cliff...

The Pharaoh and Téa awake after their sojourn from the train and were found by a sage named Ironheart, his granddaughter Chris, and their dog Sky. The Pharaoh asks Ironheart to hold on to the Eye of Timaeus until he feels ready to re-use it since it wouldn't work for him in his last duel. In an attempt to rescue Yugi, the Pharaoh enters the valley where lost souls come. (Yami Marik is sighted here as a lost soul.) He enters a circle containing Yugi's soul and tries to get him back but Yugi angrily challenges him to duel. There, Yugi uses the same strategy that the Pharoah used in his duel with Rafael. But in the end, the Pharoah does the right thing and defeats Yugi, therefore defeating the darkness within him.

Just as the Pharaoh leaves the circle, Dartz summons a creature called Orichalcos Gigas to attack. Despite his most valiant efforts, the Pharaoh can't defeat it. Every time he destroys it, it comes back stronger each time. Ironheart, Chris and Skye sacrifice themselves so that Timaeus can rejoin the Pharaoh.

Duke and Rebecca are going to reunite with the Pharoah and everyone else when they run into Mai and Valon. In order to prove himself to Mai, Valon accepts Rebecca's invitation to duel and Duke joins in with them. Despite their best efforts, Valon's mysterious Armor deck ultimately proves too strong to handle and they lose the duel.

Alister has returned to finally get his revenge against Kaiba. He challenges him to a duel on Kaiba's plane. The two of them face off in a duel and Alister plays the Seal of Orichalcos. Kaiba refuses to take responsibility for what his father has done, and Alister shows Kaiba a vision of his past.

The duel between Alister and Kaiba continues. Alister summons his powerful Sky Fortress Zuggurat. Meanwhile, Mokuba is having trouble controlling the airplane, narrowly escaping a crash into a mountain. Eventually, Roland arrives to help out. Kaiba fuses the Fang of Critias with Tyrant Wing and Blue-Eyes White Dragon to form Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon and win the duel against Alister. Critias, Hermos and Timaeus appear and help Kaiba land the plane safely where the Pharoah and his friends are waiting. Meanwhile, Dartz manages to buy out the rest of Kaiba's company making him the owner of Kaiba Corp.

Kaiba's company has been completely taken over by Dartz. Kaiba and the Pharaoh break into KaibaCorp headquarters and end up fighting off an army of monsters. Rebecca hacks into the security system to help them out. The Seal of Orichalcos is revealed to be the symbol of the "Paradias Organization", of which Dartz is the leader.

Joey duels against Valon to help save Mai. Valon also thinks he will save Mai by defeating Joey and letting the Orichalcos take him. Valon plays his Fullarmor Gravitation combo, the same cards he used to beat Duke and Rebecca. He takes a chunk out of Joey's Life Points, but leaves himself wide open for a direct attack on the next turn.

Joey takes the opportunity to strike Valon directly while his defenses are down, but he just plays Fullarmor Gravitation again on his next turn. The effects of Valon's armor monsters are slowly chipping away at Joey's Life Points, and it looks like this could be the end of the road for him.

Tristan, Tea, and the Pharaoh find Joey's location using KaibaCorp's satellite and set out to help him. Meanwhile, the duel between Joey and Valon continues. Joey plays the Claw of Hermos, fusing it with Rocket Warrior to create Rocket Hermos Cannon. He is finally able to destroy Valon's armor - only to have him resummon it on his next turn. After a critical blow by Valon, Joey activates a trap card, Aura Armor, allowing him to wear a special suit of armor that gives him unique abilities in order to combat Valon's strategies.

Valon uses Phoenix Gravitation to revive his armor, but Joey is able to revive Hermos, overpowering Valon and winning the duel. Valon's soul is taken by the Orichalcos but not before he realizes what he has done was wrong. Joey challenges the possessed Mai to a duel, knowing it is the only way to free her. She quickly plays the Seal of Orichalcos and summons a whole flock of Cyber Harpies, putting Joey in a tight spot.

Mai's Cyber Harpies continue to destroy Joey's monsters and reduce his Life Points. Joey is only one attack away from defeat, but Mai finds herself unable to go through with it. Joey is too worn out from his last duel to continue dueling Mai and the Orichalcos takes his soul. Mai is freed from the Seal's control and she swears to destroy Dartz.

The Pharaoh is re-challenged for his soul by Rafael, but not before pocketing the Claw of Hermos from Joey. Rafael protects his Guardians even out of his own Life Points and to the Pharaoh's horror, he plays the Seal of Orichalcos.

Rafael has given into darkness and uses it to strengthen his monsters even further, including his beloved Guardian Eatos. The Pharaoh merges Timaeus and Dark Magician to form Amulet Dragon, which gains more attack points from the spells in his graveyard. He successfully destroys Eatos, only for Rafael to summon Guardian Dreadscythe in its place.
176	"Grappling with a Guardian (3)" "Destroy the Darkness of the Heart!" (心の闇を撃て!)	2003 Oct 22	2005 Apr 30
A flashback shows that Rafael refused to let go of his past against Dartz's orders, for the sake of his Guardians, but he betrayed their trust by using the Orichalcos and sacrificing his monster for Guardian Dreadscythe. To make matters worse, Dreadscythe can be revived by merely discarding a card. The Pharaoh finally defeats the evil Guardian using Eatos and Goddess Bow. With his last Life Points, Rafael revives all his sacrificed Guardians. Even though he lost, Rafael's soul was spared from being taken by the Orichalcos.

The Pharaoh saves Rafael from going down with Paradius' headquarters, and along with Kaiba and his friends he heads for the ancient temple where Dartz is located. With only two more souls left to release the Great Leviathan, Dartz challenges the Pharaoh and Kaiba. The latter two both summon their strongest creature Dragon Master Knight while Dartz plays the considerably weaker Orichalcos Gigas and Orichalcos Kyutora. Dragon Knight attacks Gigas, but a flash of light interrupts the duel.

Dartz shows the Pharaoh and Kaiba the history of Atlantis, on how the Orichalcos drove them into insanity, and how he lost the wife he held so dear. In an attempt to save his people, Dartz made a contract with the Leviathan and used the Orichalcos to purge mankind, but he was stopped by the three Legendary Dragons and former King Ironheart. Back to the duel, Dartz plays the second Seal of Orichalcos, Orichalcos Dueteros, and summons his four Mirror Knights, each containing the souls of Yugi, Joey, Pegasus and Mai; if the Knights are destroyed, their souls are lost forever. Can the Pharaoh find the strength to continue?

Kaiba refuses to let the Pharaoh's sentimentality cost them the duel and launches assaults on the Mirror Knights, only for them to defend each other by sacrificing their shields. Yugi talks to the Pharoah and tells him to attack and that they would be alright. All the while, the second seal increases Dartz's Life Points, making him harder to beat. The Pharaoh plays weak moves and passes altogether. Rafael arrives and Dartz reveals that he made the boat crash on the day Rafael survived. Dartz springs a trap that makes Guardian Eatos self destruct to take Rafael's soul.

Dartz plays the third seal of Orichalcos, letting him negate Spells, Traps and Monster Effects that target his monsters. Kaiba goes all-out, using the Fang of Critias to Summon Mirror Force Dragon and destroy all of Dartz's monsters. However, Kyutora's destruction lets Dartz play Orichalcos Shunoros and summon the invincible shields Dexia and Aristoros. Kaiba's Life Points hit 0, but he activates Wish of Final Effort to raise the Pharaoh's life points before his soul is taken by the Orichalcos, leaving the Pharoah to duel Dartz alone.

With Tristan, Téa and Mokuba out cold, the Pharaoh can no longer rely on his friends for moral support. Dartz tries to convince him to give up, saying that he would do more good to his friends by sacrificing his soul. Remembering that his friends will always be with him, the Pharaoh activates Legend of Heart to unlock the Legendary Dragon's true forms: the Legendary Knights of Atlantis! The three knights are able to destroy Dartz's Shunoros and Orichalcos Tritos, however Dartz discards all the cards in his hand and pays all his Life Points to summon the Divine Serpent, a creature with infinite strength. In order for the Pharaoh to win he has to destroy Dartz's Divine Serpent. It promptly reduces Yami's Life Points to 0 as well, but by using Relay Soul he stays in the game with Dark Magician Girl. If Dark Magician Girl is destroyed, the Pharaoh loses.

Divine Serpent's attack is warded off by the Legendary Knights, who use their effects to raise their own attack to infinity with the help of their combined form, Knight of Destiny, whom destroys the Divine Serpent and wins the duel. Yugi, Joey, and Kaiba are set free since they are the chosen duelists.

Dartz has sacrificed and merged himself with the Leviathan, and - despite Dark Magician Girl and the monster spirits arriving to help them out - Yugi, Kaiba and Joey are fighting a losing battle. They are slowly being absorbed by Leviathan, but the Pharaoh is able to awaken the light in all the souls that had been eaten by the beast and summon the Egyptian Gods.

With Atlantis collapsing, Yugi, Joey and Kaiba go to the portal where they will be transported back to the others. Yugi stays back when he sees that Dartz and Laviathan aren't gone for good. The Pharaoh has still not managed to fully conquer the darkness in his heart. With the help of everyone else's light, he is finally able to seal the Leviathan away again and free Dartz from the power of the Orichalcos. The souls that were offered to the Leviathan are set free and return to their bodies, including that of Mai, Rafael, Alister, Valon, Rex, and Weevil. The helicopter takes off leaving Yugi behind. But Yugi and the Pharaoh escape and wash up on an island where they are confronted by the three Knights of Atlantis and Dark Magician Girl. After that they rejoin their friends. They notice that the three legendary dragon cards also disappear. Everyone heads off to prepare for their next adventure to unlock the Pharaoh's memories.
