Characters
Clow Reed is the creator of the Clow Cards (also referred to as "The Clow"), a series of cards resembling tarot cards with various magical powers within them. Additionally, he is the creator of Yue and Cerberus, assigned to protect The Clow and ensure that it gets passed on properly to new masters. Syaoran Li (Li Showron) is a distant relative of Clow, as Clow's mother's family is the Li Clan.
When Clow was nearing death, he chose Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors) to be the new mistress of The Clow. Sakura was not yet born at the time, but Clow's magical ability allowed him to foresee most of the future and plan many of the situations that would enable Sakura to succeed in taking full possession of the Clow Cards. This is the reason that Sakura's sealing wand is pink and cute; he wanted to make a suitable wand for the young girl who would be mistress. And not because of the chances that Cerberus choose a girl.
Very little of Clow's personal life is known, although Kero often references his liking for playing jokes, and his constant smile and the likes and interests described in his manga quarter-page indicate that he was a content and mischievous person. There are also some hints, especially in the anime, that Clow and his creation Yue had some sort of connection that went deeper than Master and creation. However, whether this was a mutual romantic interest or simply one-sided on Yue's part is unknown.
During the first Cardcaptor Sakura movie, it is revealed that, as an extremely powerful magician, Clow had a great deal of enemies, one of which is the movie's antagonist, a madoushi (sorceress) who held a bitter grudge against Clow even after she died. She is not named in the original version and is simply referred to as the "Madoushi"; the English dub opted to name her "Su Yung". The Madoushi, who worked as a fortune-teller, found that Clow's ability to accurately predict the future affected her own business and developed a deep hatred for him. She challenged her rival to frequent duels and eventually cast a spell that allowed her spirit to reside in a book after she died and draw Clow Reed to her. Once released from the book by Clow (or one possessing the Clow Cards), that person would become sealed in the book in her place. In the English dub, Su Yung was actually a student of Clow's and they had loved one another. However, her desire to become powerful resulted in spreading destruction rather than using it responsibly. The two were unable to see eye to eye concerning their belief as to how magic should be used and an intense fight ensued. When she lost and died, Clow sealed her in an alternate dimension of his own creation, where she sought to free herself and pass onto the next world after taking revenge on Clow.
Sakura unintentionally releases the Madoushi during a trip to Hong Kong and the sorceress, refusing to believe Clow is dead, attacks the young cardcaptor and endangers her friends. She eventually relents when she realizes she truly loved Clow; she accepts his death and vanishes.
Clow makes an appearance in episode 46 just after Sakura has completed the Final Judgment, thus becoming the new mistress of The Clow. Here Clow explains the coincidences he had planned for Sakura--situations that would allow her to recapture all the Cards. He also advises Sakura to take care of her new power, the power that changed the original sealing wand into one that is completely Sakura's.
In episode 68, Sakura uses The Return to visit Clow prior to his death. Clow recognizes Sakura but does not concisely answer all of her questions. Sakura is mainly concerned that she would never be as great or as powerful as Clow, but Clow reminds her that she cannot keep comparing herself to him. Sakura is her own self, and she has already been fulfilling Clow's final wish, which is to allow his creations (the Cards, Cerberus, and Yue) to live in happiness under a new master. During this visit, Clow gives little to no insight about the recent mysterious happenings, though Sakura finds that out from Eriol when she returns to the present.
Sakura Kinomoto(Sakura Avalon)
Sakura Kinomoto (木之本 桜 Kinomoto Sakura) is the eponymous heroine of Cardcaptor Sakura. Sakura is portrayed as a well-loved, cheerful, cute and at times an naïve ten-year old. Named after the Japanese word for "cherry blossom", Sakura is skilled in sports at school, being called the "best baton twirler in school" by her friends. However, she hates math and has an open fear of ghosts. Sakura maintains a crush on Yukito Tsukishiro for most of the manga and anime, but eventually develops similar feelings towards Syaoran Li after he confesses to her upon his own feelings.
She becomes the entitled Cardcaptor by guardian beast Kerberus after accidentally opening and releasing the Clow Cards from the Clow Book. Aided by Kerberus, her best friend and cousin Tomoyo Daidouji, and later Syaoran, Sakura successfully captures all the cards and is named the new Clow Mistress by the cards' second guardian Yue (Yukito's true form). In the second half of the manga and anime, Sakura must use the power of her own star to transform the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards, or else the cards would lose their powers.

Syaoran Li(Li Showron)
Syaoran Li (李 小狼 Ri Shaoran , Chinese Pinyin: Lǐ Xiǎoláng) is a distant relative of Clow Reed, the creator of the Clow Cards. As such, he believes that he should be the one to inherit the Clow Cards and tries to capture the cards for himself. As the series progresses, Syaoran comes to respect Sakura and becomes her friend and ally. He eventually falls in love with her, though she is slow to realize it due to her own feelings for Yukito.
Initially, in the anime, Syaoran has a crush on Yukito. Only later, at the beginning of the third season of the "Cardcaptor" series, does Syaoran begin to fall in love with Sakura, and make his feelings visible to viewers. In the manga, Syaoran begins to develop feelings for Sakura around the time of the Erase card's capture. After Yukito rejects Sakura's feelings, Syaoran comforts her and Sakura slowly reciprocates his feelings. Near the second-half of the series, Syaoran confesses his feelings to Sakura. With Sakura now undisputed master of the cards, he decides to return to Hong Kong. At the end of the series, he returns from Hong Kong a few months later to reunite with Sakura. In the anime adaptation, Syaoran manages to catch several cards by playing a major role in helping Sakura seal them. He is allowed to attempt the final judgment but fails. Syaoran is shown to have similar powers to Sakura, such as sensing Clow Cards and magical auras, is a skilled martial artist, and wields a sword which he can use to cast spells when equipped with incantation papers. He can also use a device dubbed a "lasenboard" in Cardcaptors, which can detect and direct him to magical entities.
In the English Cardcaptors adaptation, he is renamed to "Li Showron" and he is introduced in the first episode, as the male lead. He is also called a "Cardcaptor," despite his not being chosen by Kero as such. Another incarnation of the character appears as the protagonist of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, another manga series by Clamp.
Keroberos
Cerberus (ケルベロス, Keruberosu) is a fictional character in Clamp's manga and anime series Cardcaptor Sakura. His name is more commonly known in its romanized version, Keroberos, which is also often shortened to Kero-chan. He is voiced in his more common "hidden" form by Aya Hisakawa and Masaya Onosaka in his "true" form.
In his borrowed form, Keroberos resembles a bear with yellow-orange fur, big ears, and small white wings. However, his true form is that of a huge, tawny maneless lion, with enormous angelic white wings and chestplate of beaten metal, studded with rubies.
Keroberos's name and form are based on Cerberus from Greek mythology, a large three-headed beast who was assigned to guard the gates of Hades, a parallel to Cerberus’s duty in the Cardcaptor Sakura storyline where he guarded a deck of cards from the cover of the book that contained them.
In Cardcaptors, his name was changed to Keroberos, but was nicknamed Kero. In Japanese this is pronounced "keh-ro" in Japanese, but "kee-ro" in English.

Yukito Tsukishiro(Julian Star)
The characters in Yukito's given name (雪兎) mean "snow-rabbit". The characters in his surname (月城) mean "moon-castle". Chinese folklore tells of a Rabbit in the Moon and his alter-ego Yue is associated with the Moon. In reference to his surname, this could also be a reference to the fact that Yukito is Yue's false form; essentially, a "castle".Yukito has brown eyes and gray hair, parted on the side. He has large glasses, giving him a scholarly appearance. While he is usually seen in his school uniform, he can also be seen wearing in casual clothes, namely, jeans and a hooded sweatshirt.
Yue
Yue (月) means moon in Chinese. (The Japanese word for moon is tsuki, but uses the same kanji.) Because his name is not of Japanese origin, Yue's name is spelled in katakana, not hiragana.
In the English anime and the later printings of the English manga, his name is romanized as "Yue" (after the Hanyu Pinyin romanization of his name). In the early English manga, his name is romanized as "Yueh" after the Wade-Giles romanization "Yüeh".Yue is a stunningly beautiful young man with long, silver hair that flows down his back in a loose ponytail. His bangs are short, and reveals his silver-blue eyes. He wears white silken robes set with a dark blue armour, with a jeweled earring on his left ear, and large angelic wings that he can use to fly.

Clow Reed

Tōya Kinomoto(Tori Avalon)
Tōya Kinomoto (木之本 桃矢, Kinomoto Tōya) is a fictional character in Clamp's anime and manga series Cardcaptor Sakura. He is known as Tori Avalon in the English adaptation Cardcaptors.
He appears in another Clamp series Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and is known there as Tōya, although his name has also been romanized as "Touya". He is voiced by Tomokazu Seki in Cardcaptor Sakura and by Shinichirō Miki in Tsubasa Chronicle. In Cardcaptors, he is voiced by Tony Sampson, and by Kirk Thornton in the 2nd Movie. He is voiced by Eric Vale in Tsubasa Chronicle.Toya is a very tall, well-built, and strikingly handsome young man with tanned skin, dark brown hair parted on the left side, and dark brown eyes. He is usually seen in his high school uniform, but occasionally has also been seen in casual clothes

Fujitaka Kinomoto(Aiden Avalon)
Fujitaka is the father of Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors) and Toya Kinomoto (Tori Avalon). Despite his very busy job as a college professor of archaeology at Towa University, he still finds time for his children whenever he could. He is portrayed as an extremely kind and caring man, who has never been seen to get angry or upset at anything at all. He loves his family dearly, especially his late wife, Nadeshiko (Natasha), to the extent that he keeps the promise he made to her on her deathbed: never to cry over her and sadden himself. In the second volume of the manga, Toya stated that Fujitaka was very athletic, a possible reason why both Sakura and Toya are good at sports.
One of the major differences between his characterization in the manga and the anime is that in the manga, he is explicitly stated as half of the reincarnation of Clow Reed's soul, however holding no magical abilities himself. In the anime, this connection is erased altogether and never mentioned, as he is shown as one of the people affected by Eriol Hiiragizawa's (Eli Moon) sleep spell at the end of the series (the spell is not supposed to affect those with strong magical ability). In the manga, as he is half of Clow's reincarnation, he is unaffected by his spell and even shows up after Sakura manages to transform The Light and The Dark, passing Eriol's last trial. Fujitaka receives half of Eriol's magic as part of Eriol's final task of reducing his magical ability, leaving Sakura the strongest magician alive. With the infusion of magic, Fujitaka is able to see Nadeshiko's spirit and be reunited with her once again.
Fujitaka is mostly disliked by Sonomi Daidōji (Samantha), who strongly believes that he stole Nadeshiko from her in high school. At the time, Sonomi and Nadeshiko were high school students, and Fujitaka was starting his first year as a teacher there. One day, Nadeshiko had climbed a tree to tend to some birds in their nest, but she accidentally fell. Luckily, Fujitaka broke her fall, and after seeing Nadeshiko on top of him, he commented, "It appears that an angel has fallen from the sky." This sparked the relationship that would lead to their marriage when Nadeshiko is sixteen. In Episode 11, Sonomi recounts in a rant about how they would arrive at school together with matching packed lunches, husband and wife.
Sonomi is upset, because she herself had feelings toward Nadeshiko, but Fujitaka took all her attention away. Sonomi also believes they married too young, and Nadeshiko's unfortunate death just three years after her second child may have been related to this. Sonomi does not harbor absolute hatred for Fujitaka, however, as his consistent optimism and kindness make it clear to her why Nadeshiko liked him so much. Ironically, however, the inability to hate him makes her hate him more.
In the anime, Nadeshiko and Sonomi's grandfather and caretaker, Masaaki Amamiya, also used to disapprove of Fujitaka, especially because they both helped to raise Nadeshiko. Sakura meets her great-grandfather for the first time when on summer vacation, though she is unaware of his relationship to her. Sakura later discovers that her great-grandfather disapproved of Fujitaka as Fujitaka mentions it in their conversation about Masaaki, so on the day of Masaaki's birthday, she sends him a present though Sonomi. Masaaki, wanting to repay that act of kindness, asks Fujitaka for a meeting and, along with giving him presents for Toya and Sakura, in an act of forgiveness and regret, apologizes for the resentment and estrangement after the latter's marriage.
Nadeshiko Kinomoto(Natasha Avalon)
Nadeshiko is the mother of Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors) and Toya Kinomoto (Tori Avalon). Her husband is Fujitaka Kinomoto (Aiden Avalon). Nadeshiko appears only in memory and in spirit (literally) in the series, as she died (at the age of 27) when Sakura was three years old. However, she is remembered frequently, and her family continues to love and respect her. Fujitaka keeps her memory alive by keeping a picture of her on the kitchen table and changing the picture every day. Sakura makes an effort to greet it every morning.
Nadeshiko's ghost is a type of presence in the series. When Toya was younger, he could see Nadeshiko quite often, but as he got older, she showed up less often. Sakura has never been able to see ghosts (although she has been able to feel them) and so she never sees Nadeshiko throughout the entire series.
Nadeshiko makes her first visible appearance in Episode 6, "Sakura and Memories of Her Mother." Sakura is tricked by The Illusion and walks off a cliff (in the manga, the card tried to drown her in a pond), losing consciousness during the fall. Her drop, however, is slowed by Nadeshiko's translucent hand catching Sakura's wrist (her hand has a distinctive silver ring on the ring finger), slowing her fall enough so Yukito Tsukishiro(Julian) can catch Sakura properly. As she was unconscious, Sakura is unaware of this aid. The Illusion again tries to trick Sakura later, and Sakura initially falls for it believing that the card is Nadeshiko's ghost and needs her help, but later breaks off her psychological control (more specifically, she remembers Yukito telling her that the ghost of a mother wouldn't hurt her still-living children) and captures the card. At the end of the episode, Sakura presents Nadeshiko's picture a gift, unaware that Nadeshiko's ghost is hovering over her at the time (adorning a set of angel wings). Nadeshiko comments to Toya, who is watching from a distance, that she had been a little worried and came down to see how Sakura was. After ensuring that Sakura is okay, Nadeshiko leaves.
Nadeshiko makes an additional appearance at the end of Episode 39 when Sakura is recovering from a fever. While Sakura is half-asleep, Nadeshiko appears as a ghost and places her hand atop Sakura's forehead, appearing to lower her temperature closer to normal. Toya is in the room at the time and witnesses this; Sakura says that it feels like her mother was with her, but she does not actually see her while Toya does.
In Episode 46, "Sakura and the Last Judgement," Sakura is transported into a world where everyone has forgotten their feelings for the person he or she loves most. In this world, Fujitaka does not have Nadeshiko's picture on the dinner table, surprising Sakura greatly. Even eight years after Nadeshiko died, Fujitaka still loves her dearly.
One of Toya's memories of his mother is when she taught him how to play the organ at home. In Episode 54, when Toya plays on the piano at school, he remembers sitting next to Nadeshiko on the family organ, watching her play and following her example.
In high school, Nadeshiko (then Nadeshiko Amamiya) was a student of Fujitaka Kinomoto during his first year as a teacher and also had a job as a model. She married Fujitaka when she was sixteen, much to the displeasure of her various relatives, especially her cousin Sonomi Daidōji (Samantha Taylor) and grandfather/caretaker Masaaki. Fujitaka mentions that he had Nadeshiko for eleven years, from where her death at twenty-seven is concluded. Since Sakura was three, and Toya is seven years older, Nadeshiko presumably gave birth to Toya at seventeen. How this was accomplished when Sonomi clearly stated that the two would come to the high school together while married (Sonomi mentions in a rant that the two would come with their "nauseatingly-matched" packed lunches, husband and wife) is not mentioned; it's possible that Nadeshiko gave birth few months after graduation.
Nadeshiko is admired by Sonomi, who had feelings for Nadeshiko in high school but never had the chance to pursue them further when Nadeshiko married Fujitaka. Sonomi continues to dislike Fujitaka in the present day for that reason, but she will admit that she cannot entirely hate him, as his consistent optimism and kindness make it clear to her why Nadeshiko liked him so much. In volume 5 of the Manga and episode 10 of the anime, it is revealed that her maiden name was Amamiya; Toya tells that to Yukito as he explains the background of his parents' love story.
The manga hints that Nadeshiko may have had some magic, as Fujitaka tells Toya that his magic abilities are the same as his mother's. And at the end of the manga(chapter 45), when Fujitaka receives half of Eriol Hiiragizawa's powers since they're both incarnations of Clow Reed, he gains the ability to see Nadeshiko's spirit.
Masaki Amamiya(Grandfather)
One of the major differences between his characterization in the manga and the anime is that in the manga, he is explicitly stated as half of the reincarnation of Clow Reed's soul, however holding no magical abilities himself.
Masaki Amamiya (天宮 真嬉, Amamiya Masaki) is the great-grandfather of Sakura Kinomoto on her mother's side. Initially objecting to Nadeshiko's marriage to Fujitaka Kinomoto, he became more accepting upon meeting Sakura and later receiving a gift from her as a form of peace between family members.
Masaki is the grandfather of Nadeshiko and Sonomi Daidōji, and cherished his two granddaughters during their childhoods. Nadeshiko, in particular, appeared to be his favourite. However, when Fujitaka proposed to Nadeshiko when she was still sixteen and a school student, Masaki was very much against the marriage, as was Sonomi. Nadeshiko loved Fujitaka and married him, eventually giving birth to Toya Kinomoto and Sakura Kinomoto, whilst Sonomi eventually gave birth to her own daughter Tomoyo Daidōji. However, Nadeshiko fell ill in her 20's and died. Masaki was aggrieved by her death and did not see Fujitaka or Nadeshiko's children after her death.
Masaki is a tall, elderly man with greying-brown hair, a broad powerful chest, and a neatly-trimmed silver beard. He is shown to be very rich, owning a grand summer house in the countryside near Tomoeda which has tennis courts and a large garden. He is shone to be a reserved but kindly man, but out of loneliness and stubborness, he refused to support Nadeshiko's relationship and eventually regretted not supporting her choices in life. Fujitaka did not visit Masaki under the belief he was not welcome. Masaki kept in close contact with Sonomi, although it is unknown if he had met Tomoyo or not.
Masaki eventually meets Sakura for the first time when Sakura, Toya, Fujitaka and Yukito Tsukishiro stay at a holiday house near his summer home. Sonomi informs him of Sakura's presence and he spots her when she becomes curious about his house. He invited Sakura over repeatedly during her stay, not revealing he was her great-grandfather but cryptically hinted that his granddaughter was Nadeshiko, allowing Sakura to try on her mother's childhood dresses. He revealed that he missed Nadeshiko tremendously, and loved it when rainbows appeared outside his house on a rainy and sunny day. Sakura left but used The Rain Clow Card to create a rainbow for Masaki, the rainbow also witnessed by Sonomi who visited her grandfather at the time.
A year later, Fujitaka found an old calendar Nadeshiko had created and gives it to Sakura. Sakura finds Masaki's birthday on the calendar, Fujitaka explaining the hostility between him and Masaki. While Sakura at first shows anger towards Masaki for acting in such a way, but upon realising it is birthday soon, she decides to end the family fued by giving him a gift for his birthday. She creates a wallet for him, and convinces Toya to play an organ recital for Masaki that Nadeshiko taught him in the past. Fujitaka passes the gifts on to Sonomi to give to Masaki.
The next day, Fujitaka receives a telephone call from Sonomi who reveals Masaki wishes to speak in person with Fujitaka. Fujitaka finds Masaki in Penguin Park, revealing the two had not seen each other since the day Nadeshiko gave Masaki his wedding invitation. Masaki reveals he has gifts for Sakura and Toya. Masaki suddenly breaks down in tears, apologising for the way he treated Fujitaka, believing he was stubborn to not support Nadeshiko's happiness. Fujitaka also apologises for his own troubles, and the two make peace with one another.
Sakura discovers the present Masaki left her was the dress she wore at his summer house, although she does not seem to realise who he actually is despite Cerberus pointing out its origins.
In the english dub, Masaki was portrayed instead as the father of Nadeshiko/Natasha, making him the grandfather of Sakura instead of her great-grandfather. In the episode, Sakura knew who he was and they spent a good time together, playing tennis, having tea, Sakura giving him cookies and Masaki giving Sakura the dress her mother wore. Just before leaving, Sakura used the Rain card to make a rainbow for Masaki, prompting him to remember when Natasha had first pointed out a rainbow to him.

Tomoyo Daidōji(Madison Taylor)
Tomoyo Daidouji (大道寺 知世 Daidouji Tomoyo) is a fictional, major supporting character in Clamp's anime and manga series Cardcaptor Sakura and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. She is Princess Tomoyo's Descendant. Tomoyo Daidouji (大道寺 知世Daidōji Tomoyo) is the best friend of the series' protagonist, Sakura Kinomoto, and her second cousin on their mothers' sides. The daughter of the president of Daidōji Toy Company, Sonomi Daidōji, Tomoyo lives a life of wealth and is watched over by a team of female bodyguards. She has access to a variety of prototype technological gadgets from her mother's company, and supplies Sakura and Cerberus with different communication devices throughout the series. She is depicted as being mature, kind-hearted, intelligent, and regularly speaking using more formal verb conjugations and expressions than normally seen in elementary students. She is a talented singer, and is shown performing in various school events. In the anime, her musical ability causes her to be targeted by both the Voice and Song cards.
Sonomi Daidōji née Amamiya (King in Cardcaptors) is the mother of Tomoyo Daidouji (Madison Taylor) and the first cousin of Nadeshiko Kinomoto (Natasha Avalon). She is also the president of Daidōji Toys Co., a large toy corporation, and owns a large estate as a result of her wealth. She also has several bodyguards, many of whom are assigned directly to Tomoyo. She is also fairly athletic, once going to the national championships in track and field in high school, according to Tomoyo.
Sonomi adores Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon) much like Tomoyo does, treating her as her own daughter. The main reason is that Sakura is the daughter of Nadeshiko, whom she had protected and loved since kindergarten. Nadeshiko died at the age of 27, three years after giving birth to Sakura. Sonomi initially blames Nadeshiko's death on Fujitaka Kinomoto, who was Sonomi's and Nadeshiko's teacher in high school. In his first year as a teacher, Fujitaka was charmed by Nadeshiko, and they soon married when she was 16.
Nadeshiko's death was due to other factors, however, and Sonomi, after meeting with Fujitaka in episode 10, realizes that the early marriage did not contribute to her illness, as both agree that those were the happiest years of Nadeshiko's life. Sonomi tells Fujitaka that she loved Nadeshiko, more than just as a cousin. Fujitaka understands that Nadeshiko loved Sonomi, too, and apologizes that he was the one who got to spend time with her between her sixteenth and twenty-seventh birthdays. Sonomi quickly responds that such is the reason she dislikes him so much.
Sonomi will always remain a rival to Fujitaka, as she has never won against him in any contest. Despite her recent acceptance of Nadeshiko marrying Fujitaka, she still wants to prove herself the better person. The only time Sonomi has won against Fujitaka is in the second movie during the Nadeshiko Festival. When Sakura is almost ready to perform, Fujitaka readies a simple disposable camera for pictures. Sonomi, however, has her bodyguards situated at different angles from the stage, all equipped with the latest video cameras. She claims confidently that she would get the better footage.
Nothing is ever revealed about Sonomi's husband other than his surname. He is not present in either the manga or the anime, and his only mention is an enigmatic statement by Sakura that Tomoyo "never mentions her father."
It is notable that Sonomi adored Nadeshiko very much the same way Tomoyo does Sakura - however, whereas Tomoyo selflessly keeps her feelings for Sakura hidden (and even tries to bring Sakura and Syaoran together), Sonomi was a rather bitter and jealous person when it came to getting Nadeshiko's attention. Tomoyo tells Sakura that the reason her Mother wants Tomoyo's hair to grow long is so it resembles Nadeshiko's. Episode 62 and the ending of the second movie, however, appears to hint of a growing affection for Fujitaka that she has hidden in her dislike for the man.
Meiling's name in Chinese characters translates, to "plum jade" or "beautiful jade".
Like Syaoran, Meiling has many alternate spellings to her name, which are used in DVD releases, and some publications. Some spellings include Meirin, Meilin, Meiling, and Mei-Ling.
When she learns of Sakura's new role as a Cardcaptor, she insists that Sakura must wear "special outfits" and begins providing Sakura with the various costumes she wears during her captures as well as accompanying her on missions to record the events with her video camera. In the manga, some scenes give the appearance that Tomoyo has a crush on Sakura's brother Toya; however, according to an interview in the Cardcaptor Sakura Memorial Book, this was an error caused by one of the finishing artists not being aware that CLAMP intended for Tomoyo to have feelings for Sakura. In future volumes, this is corrected by having a scene note that Tomoyo blushed around Toya because he reminded her of Sakura. While Tomoyo is in love with Sakura, she notes that she is happy to be able to be with Sakura and does not require Sakura to love her back. Instead, she encourages Sakura's love of Yukito, and later becomes Syaoran Li's confidante and ally when he falls in love with Sakura. In the English adaptation Cardcaptors, Tomoyo's name is changed to Madison Taylor. The familiar relationship with Sakura is removed and all dialog suggesting that she has romantic feelings for Sakura are edited to be purely platonic in nature.

Like Syaoran, Meiling has many alternate spellings to her name, which are used in DVD releases, and some publications. Some spellings include Meirin, Meilin, Meiling, and Mei-Ling.
Meiling has black hair which is parted in the middle, into two buns on either side of her head and the rest hanging down. While cardcapting, she wears chinese garb, with a prominent ying-yang symbol in the middle.
Meiling is well-meaning despite her immaturity, and devoted despite her rash attitude. Her view of Sakura changes from rival to valued friend as the series progresses. When she briefly returns to Tomoeda, she acknowledges Sakura as the person Syaoran Li loves. She smiles at Syaoran, tears in her eyes as she concedes that the engagement is called off, then leaves the apartment as he attempts to go after her. Meiling spends the night at Tomoyo Daidōji's house to release all of her sadness through much screaming and tears without burdening Syaoran. This moment shows not only how much Meiling has matured, but also how much she cares for him, as she gives up what she has held dear for most of her life in order for him to be happy. Although Meiling is heartbroken, she supports and helps to progress Sakura and Syaoran's kindling relationship, out of love for both of her dear friends.Cardcaptors
In Cardcaptors she is renamed Meilin Rae, so that the relation between Syaoran as cousins is nonexistent due to Nelvana deeming it inappropriate, and is instead presented as a childhood friend of sorts. Although Meiling's infatuation for Syaoran is drastically edited, it is still somewhat presented as her having a enormous crush and admiration for him. Meiling's personality is basically the same, as she is shown to be a braggart, somewhat conceited, and defensive when it comes to anything to do with Syaoran, yet at the same time, having guts, consideration, and determination. Although she still shows jealousy towards Sakura for being with Syaoran all time, in the English version, the relationship between Syaoran and Sakura is scaled back to being close friends as opposed to lovers. Furthermore, all of the moments pertaining to Meiling having an engagement to Syaoran have been edited out.
Eriol Hiiragizawa(Eli Moon)
Eriol has blue hair and kind off large, squared-off glasses that don't conceal his gray eyes. When using his powers, he wears blue robes and a large black hat, both sporting unique yellow decoration.
Despite his appearance, Eriol is not actually twelve as he halted his aging process to get close to Sakura. His actual age is unknown, exept that he's just as old as Sakura's father. Eriol's life experience, coupled with his access to Clow Reed's memories, means that he is significantly more knowledgeable and mature than his classmates. Appearently, he is quite skilled in basketball.
Eriol normally appears to be a serious person. However, he actually has a mischievous personality, and has to restrain himself from making wisecracks when Sakura and Li are "so slow", as he tells Sakura in Episode 55 (as the Cheshire Cat). Eriol enjoys himself when using his magic to put Sakura in various situations, such as when he puts her in a pit filled with sheep.
Nakuru Akizuki(Ruby Moon)
Ruby is well aware that Yue's magical energy is rapidly running out and that Toya could renew it. She plans to take that energy for herself, which would render Toya powerless and result in Yue's destruction. However, her efforts in that direction prove futile and Toya eventually hands over his power to Yue. Ruby then gives up on her pursuit of Toya and returns to focus on helping Eriol as his guardian.
In the final confrontation with Sakura Kinomoto, Ruby Moon fights Yue in his true form. Although they fight evenly for most of the battle, Yue eventually proves to be more determined. After Yue and Cerberus successfully rush past Ruby Moon and Spinel Sun, Ruby Moon declares that she and Spinel are stronger in terms of power. Spinel responds in favor of Yue and Cerberus, saying "it must be the power of the heart that believes in their owner."
Spinel Sun (Spinny Sun)
In his borrowed form, he looks like a small black cat with butterfly-like blue wings. Once transformed, though, he resembles a black panther with pointy ears, enlarged wings, and a blue gem in the middle of his forehead. The gem is also placed into the silver butterfly armor he wears on his chest. Being a cat, his
pupils are slits.Spinel was given the nickname "Suppi" (Spinny in Cardcaptors) by his fellow guardian, Ruby Moon. He detests the nickname, despite it being a variation of his name, and broods whenever Ruby uses it.
Spinel is one of Eriol Hiiragizawa's guardians, designed to be the counterpart of Cerberus. While Cerberus tends to be active and energetic and spends the days playing video games, Spinel is calm and refined, spending much of his time reading. Although they tend to argue a lot, their bond is that of friends.
Spinel's "weakness", given to him by an amused Eriol, is sugar or sweet snacks. Eating any amount of them will cause him to become "drunk," which in Spinel's case is a state of loud and frenzied gluttony, worse than that of Cerberus. Because of this vulnerability, Spinel expresses a distaste for sweets.
Wang Wei (Wei Li)
Wang Wei (王 伟, Wan Wei, Chinese Pinyin: Wáng Wěi), more commonly just called Wei, is guardian to Syaoran Li and Meiling Li during their extended stay in Tomoeda. He is employed as a butler and guardian in the Li household, and possibly an actual family member although it is never confirmed. He goes by "Wei Li".
Wei is the guardian to Syaoran and Meiling during their stay in Tomoeda whilst trying to capture the wayward Clow Cards created by their ancestor Clow Reed. Wei is an aging tall man with grey hair and a mustache. He wears spectacles and often is seen wearing a butler's uniform. He usually wears a shirt, dark trousers and an apron when working in the kitchen.
Wei is very polite and well-mannered, referring to Syaoran and Meiling as "Syaoran-sama" and "Meiling-sama", and has good manners when in the company of others like Sakura Kinomoto and Tomoyo Daidōji who becomes good friends with Wei and his quarry. Wei is shown to be very supportive of Syaoran and Meiling, encouraging Meiling to take a school race a little less seriously and instructing her on how to control her breathing and speed. Wei has known Syaoran and Meiling since they were children, having been the one who educated them and taught them martial arts, although Meiling showed more difficulty in the training process. When a bird Meiling adopted went missing, Wei waited with her as Syaoran ran off to find the bird, eventually returning with it much to Meiling's and Wei's delight.
Wei is aware of the existence of the Clow Cards and presumably Cerberus, observing Syaoran and Meiling do battle with The Twin Card, having been affected by the card's duplication ability and ends up becoming two Wei, much to Kero-chan's shock. He later departs back to Hong Kong when Meiling is forced to return home by her mother. He cameos in CardCaptor Sakura:The Movie in Yelan Li's house.
Wei has several appearances in the third season of the anime, kindly welcoming Sakura and Tomoyo into his apartment on New Year's Day, much to Syaoran's chagrin. When Meiling briefly visits Syaoran but learns he loves Sakura, Wei supports Syaoran, explaining Meiling needs time to cope with the surprise. Wei receives a phone call from Yelan who orders Syaoran to return home. Wei leaves Tomoeda with Syaoran, but Sakura catches up to them at the airport to attempt to confess her feelings towards Syaoran but is actually stopped when Wei walks over but he bows respectfully to Sakura as an apology. He is witness to Syaoran giving Sakura his homemade teddy bear.
Yamazaki(Zachary)(Left) Chiharu (Chelsea)(Right)
Chiharu is one of Sakura Kinomoto's classmates in school. She, along with Rika Sasaki and Naoko Yanagisawa, often appear alongside Sakura at school and during school events. She is also on the school's cheerleading squad with Sakura.
In the last volume of the manga, Chiharu gives Sakura advice about love and true feelings when Sakura is confused over her feelings about Syaoran.
Despite the fact that Chiharu tends to strangle Yamazaki when he is lying, Chiharu and Yamazaki are very fond of each other; Chiharu will often comment (usually in an aside) in a way that implies she cares for him. When Chiharu makes a teddy bear in the second arc of the series, she gives it to Yamazaki, expecting that he will name it after her (following a fictional tradition where, if the recipient of a teddy bear names it after the donor, the couple will be together forever). He playfully gives it a different name instead ("Suama", after his favorite snack), which prompts another strangling, but it is understood that he is only kidding.
In the anime, Yamazaki and Chiharu are never explicitly stated to be a couple, but a close relationship between them is still evident. In Episode 17, "Sakura's Scary Test of Courage," Tomoyo mentions that they have known each other since kindergarten. Also, noted in the second book of the Clow Card arc, it is implied that Chiharu has been giving chocolates to Yamazaki since kindergarten. She then comments pointedly that it is a lovely thing to be together for such a long time. Yamazaki and Chiharu also appear frequently together outside of school. In Episode 18 they attend the festival together, and she commands him to win her a prize. She often offers to make him food in exchange for a favor or another, upon which he will jokingly say that he will prepare for getting sick from her food. This is followed by Chiharu's signature strangling of Yamazaki, during which he always laughs or smiles.
The best evidence of their relationship in the anime is in Episode 46, "Sakura and the Last Judgement," when Sakura is transported into a world where everyone forgets their feelings for the person they love most. Sakura witnesses a very polite and distant conversation between Yamazaki and Chiharu, during which Yamazaki addresses her as "Mihara-san". When Sakura asks Chiharu if he has always addressed her as such, Chiharu answers yes, adding, "After all, it's not as if we know each other very well." This complete change in relationship confirms that Yamazaki and Chiharu do love each other very much.
In the final manga, Chiharu confirms that they are dating while she is helping Sakura.
In Cardcaptors, to justify the random acts of strangling as mere sibling rivalry, Zachary is written to be Chelsea's cousin!
Naoko Yanagisawa(Nikki)
Naoko is one of Sakura Kinomoto's (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors) classmates in school. She, along with Rika Sasaki (Rita) and Chiharu Mihara (Chelsea), often appear alongside Sakura at school and during school events. She is also on the school's cheerleading squad with Sakura, despite being rather bad at gymnastics.
Naoko loves reading various types of stories, especially fantasy stories and ghost stories. While Sakura reacts to scary situations with utmost fear, Naoko reacts with fascination and a brave willingness to explore these mysterious situations further.
According to an interview with Clamp featured in Clamp no Kiseki Volume 2, in a chapter that didn't make the final cut of the manga, Naoko is revealed to have a long-distance boyfriend.
Rika Sasaki(Rita)
Rika is one of Sakura Kinomoto's classmates in school. She, along with Chiharu Mihara and Naoko Yanagisawa, often appear alongside Sakura at school and during school events.
Rika is very elegant and mature for her age, although she can be very shy, especially when it comes to speaking to her teacher, Yoshiyuki Terada. Rika is also a skilled cook, able to bake cakes and cookies with ease. She cannot swim very well, as evidenced in Episode 63 when she almost drowns during one of Eriol Hiiragizawa's magical trials.
Rika is involved in the main plot in Episode 9 when she buys a brooch that is actually a Clow Card in hiding. The Card is revealed to be The Sword, as it materializes in Rika's hands when she puts on the broach and becomes possessed. The possessed Rika attacks Sakura, but Sakura soon distracts Rika using The Illusion and captures The Sword, returning Rika to normal.
Near the end of the manga, Rika gives Sakura important advice about love, comparing her situation with Terada to how Sakura feels about Syaoran (though names are never stated).
Kaho Mizuki(Layla McKenzie)
Kaho has red hair, parted down the middle, with the left side having a slight lift. She has been seen wearing a white kimono, but is more commonly seen in a formal pink dress.
Cerberus originally believed her to be Yue, due to the fact that she was sending out moon-oriented signals to hide Yue's form as Yukito. And though she preferred to remain anonymous, she often gives Sakura advice on how to use the Clow Cards.
Sakura Card Arc
When Eriol Hiiragizawa transfers to Tomoeda Elementary, Ruby Moon takes on the disguise of Nakuru Akizuki and enrolls at Seijou High School in the same class as Toya Kinomoto and Yukito Tsukishiro. Once there, she becomes a general nuisance, hugging Toya and sending Yukito away on errands, often with enigmatic statements.Ruby is well aware that Yue's magical energy is rapidly running out and that Toya could renew it.

Clow Cards Arc
Kaho first appears in the series as a mysterious substitute teacher at Tomoeda Elementary School, where she teaches math to the class that includes Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li. The two students have opposite reactions to her: Sakura takes an instant liking while Syaoran responds with coldness and worry.
When Sakura, Syaoran, Meiling, and Tomoyo Daidōji go to Tsukimine Shrine and are trapped by The Maze, they are rescued by Kaho, who is the daughter of the priest. She also possesses an artifact called the Moon Bell, which can affect Clow Cards. At the same time, it is revealed that not only did Sakura's older brother Toya know Kaho, but also that they had an intimate relationship while she was his junior high school student teacher. Toya reveals that Kaho had broken up with him so she could go to England to study; she also told him that, in their next meeting, they'd be in love with other people, their own relationship sealed as a deep friendship.
In the Final Judgement it is revealed the Kaho's Moon Bell was created by Clow Reed, and left in the care of the Tsukimine shrine to be given to Sakura to help her to defeat Yue without having to injure him. The bell combines with Sakura's staff to create a new staff of Sakura's own power, and even allows her to use even a card under Yue's own sign (Windy) against him and winning the battle.

- This is changed in the anime version of the series, however, where Kaho uses the Moon Bell to give the seemingly defeated Sakura a second chance, enabling her to win the Final Judgment and become the new master of the Clow Cards. After this, the Moon Bell disappears. After fulfilling her duty and delivering Clow Reed's bell to Sakura, Kaho returns to England, after enigmatically telling Yukito to "take care of" Toya.
Sakura Cards Arc
Kaho maintains a steady but guarded exchange of letters with Sakura that are full of enigmatic but helpful advice. When she finally reappears, to everyone's surprise, it is at the home of Eriol Hiiragizawa to help arrange for his return to England in her company. She had met Eriol previously, when she first left Tomoeda to continue her studies in England, three years before Sakura discovered the Clow Book.
Maki is a kind and generous woman around her thirties. She is usually seen in a brown dress and apron, and will invite familiar customers and friends like Sakura and Tomoyo to tea. Her shop, Twin Bells, serves as a toy shop mainly, selling stuff animals, and the special trading cards that prove to be popular among the children on Tomoeda Elementary School.
Maki first appeared in episode five of the anime, having recently moved to Tomoeda from another town. After the moving men depart, Maki immediately has trouble when her delivery boxes collapse repeatedly, prompting the passing Sakura to help her carry her boxes into her store. The two quickly become friends, Sakura offering to return to help her unpack her store. Sakura later returns with Tomoyo, Chiharu Mihara, Naoko Yanagisawa and Rika Sasaki, but find the store still unpacked and witness Maki tumble over indoors. The girls help her finish sorting out the stock and putting it on display. A panda toy suddenly falls out of a box and rolls over Chiharu, who takes a liking to it and buys it.
However, upon their next visit to the store, Sakura and Tomoyo recognise the panda toy on the shelf. Maki panics, realising her "curse" has followed her. She explains in the previous town she lived in, every toy she told mysteriously wound up back in the store and she was accused of theft. Maki considers closing the shop, but Sakura guesses a Clow Card is responsible. She later returns with Cerberus and Tomoyo to locate the card. Tomoyo distracts Maki whilst Sakura and Cerberus search for the card, eventually finding the Jump Card which enchants all the toys in the store to come to life, and they flee the shop just as Maki emerges, causing her to faint in shock. Sakura catches Jump and returns the toys to the store, Maki recovering and shaking off what she saw, finding her curse gone.
Maki reappears in the episode where Sakura catches the Shot Card, gaining special trading cards in store, one of which is the Shot Card, which ends up in Meiling Li possession. Maki also participates in Tomoeda's annual quiz contest, monitoring the second question stand. She also appears in the first movie, running a lucky draw contest for the town's shopping district. Sakura has a go at the contest, getting the gold ball (due to magical manipulation from Madoushi), winning the grand prize to visit Hong Kong, leading to the events of the first movie.. She is seen again in the third season during Eriol's magic putting everyone in Tomoeda to sleep and she is sleeping in her table.
Maki last appearance is in a cameo in the second movie, helping out in the festival. She is presumably consumed by the Nothing Card, and then freed after Sakura catches it.

Terada-sensei, as he is addressed by all of his students, is a teacher at Tomoeda Elementary School. Through the fourth grade and part of the fifth-grade year, he is the homeroom teacher of Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors) and every other recurring elementary student character. Terada appears to teach a variety of subjects, including physical education, where he is seen in a gray sweat-suit and equipped with a whistle.Terada is not directly involved in any Clow Card plot, although he is generally always nearby as a chaperon on school field trips and events (where Clow Cards frequently appear). Because he has no magical ability, Terada never realizes most of what is happening or instead just considers it peculiar (i.e. unusual weather conditions).
While he appears to be simply a filler character in the series (the obligatory teacher in a series centered around a schoolgirl), Terada is more well known for his relationship with student Rika Sasaki (Rita).

Yelan Li(Yelan Showron)
Yelan is a tall and extremely beautiful young woman, with an air of grace and elegance that effortlessly commands respect and awe. She wears a long-sleeved white Hanfu, with light-purple borders, and a royal-blue sash tied with golden rings, with red ornaments hanging around it. Her ebony-black hair is tied behind on a high ponytail, adorned with a golden headpiece, a dramatic contrast to her porcelain-white skin and full scarlet-red lips.
Yelan is an extremely serious person, and deeply respected by her children, especially Syaoran, who actually appears to even fear her at times. She is also very strict, evidenced by the fact that Syaoran was intensely nervous about receiving his report card (which he would have to show her), and that he did not even move an inch when she passed by. However, she can be kind and sympathetic, as seen when she helped Sakura Kinomoto to discover that an evil entity was the true reason behind her visit to Hong Kong, and provided her with comfort, advice, and even vital help (breaching a potent energy barrier that Sakura was powerless against). Besides this, she even gave Sakura a soft, maternal kiss on her cheek, indicating that she had developed a tender affection towards Sakura, despite the girl being (at that time) her son's rival on capturing the Clow Cards.
After meeting with Syaoran and Meiling; Sakura, Tomoyo, Toya, Yukito and a hidden Kero visited the Li manor. They were received by the Li Sisters who were charmed by Sakura and Tomoyo, and infatuated by Toya and Yukito. Then Yelan entered to the living room to meet them, after Sakura's introduction, she quickly notices her magic and Kero's presence, deducing that she is the new owner of the Clow Card; then, she invited them to stay there. That night, after Sakura had a recurring dream about Madoushi, she took her outside to discovered the reason of their visit, summoning a magic circle around Sakura and, finally, knowing that she had been called there by an evil force. She then appeared to help Sakura to break the barrier around Madoushi's well; when Sakura tried to apologize for not could avoid Syaoran's capture, she refused, saying that he was caught because of his own weakness; she then stayed with Tomoyo. Yelan is not present in the anime or in the manga; however she is briefly mentioned in the manga when they tried to catch the Maze card. In the anime it was seen when Syaoran talks with her on the telephone, informing her that he was unable to collect the Clow Cards.
Madoushi, known also as Soo Yung and The Sorceress, is a character in the anime universe of Cardcaptor Sakura, playing an antagonistic role in CardCaptor Sakura:The Movie as a vengeful spirit wishing to destroy Clow Reed, her former lover.
Madoushi is a young Chinese woman in her twenties or thirties, dressed in old age robes. She as long black hair, tied in an old Chinese style, and wears a golden hairpiece with a circular jade gemstone and a pair of wings between the gemstone. She wears a long cream-coloured robes, and orange and red coloured traditional Chinese clothes. Her most notable feature are a pair of silver-coloured ribbons. As a spirit she maintains her young appearance.
Imprisoned in a watery dimension by Clow Reed for many years had her effects on Madoushi. Beforehand she was a loving and caring woman, falling in love with Clow Reed and was taught how to perform magic and sorcery. However, she began abusing her magic for corrupted purposes, leading to a confrontation with Clow Reed who imprisoned her in another dimension as punishment. This made Madoushi very much obsessed with revenge, waiting many years for the chance to exact vengeance on Clow Reed, yet maintained some form of longing to see him again. She has a short temper, and can easily grow impatient, as seen when she demands to know where Clow Reed when Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li appear in her dimension. Despite her anger and vengeful desires, she displays a sense of sadness and inner-turmoil, and has a compassionate side as well. She has strong perceptive abilities, but is unable to recognise Clow Reed's magical energy from Sakura's.
